Digital Guidance Tool project
Department of Health and Aged care
The Digital Guidance Tool for the Department of Health and Aged Care is designed to improve access and usability of the Aged Care Strengthened Quality Standards and Evidence Mapping Framework.
The Department of Health and Aged Care required a digital solution to streamline the bulk content which was user-friendly and easily accessible to the users.
Based on the project scope and requirements, we presented an innovative design solution which involved successful stakeholder engagement. An iterative feedback loops were performed which resulted in a user-centric digital guidance tool.
We performed multiple user-interviews and workshops for continued user testing and iterative design processes. This was a key factor for maintaining and enhancing the tool's functionality. The iterative design process and user feedback were crucial in refining the tool to meet user needs and preferences.
Limitations include the project's dependence on existing content and the need for continuous updates. It was crucial to include the key features of enhanced navigation, customised Print functionality, user personalisation, comprehensive search functionality and efficient content management.
Challenges Faced and Overcome
Taxonomy terms: Developing taxonomy that enhances navigation and content display was a significant challenge. The team overcame this by integrating hover-up tooltip functionality and conducting user interviews to ensure the taxonomy met user needs effectively.
Managing Heavy Content: Presenting large volumes of content in an accessible and user-friendly manner required careful planning and design. The solution involved breaking the content into bite-sized, easily navigable sections, making it more digestible for users.
Print Functionality with Extensive Pagination and JavaScript: Providing flexible print options according to user profile customizations was a challenging task, but the team efficiently designed print functionality to filter content based on these customizations, enhancing the overall print experience by catering to individual needs.
Automatic Glossary Tagging: This innovative feature automatically tags terms within the standards, displaying pop-ups with glossary definitions. This enhancement boosts comprehension by providing immediate description to terms, which is crucial for understanding complex standards and terminology.
Content Layout Across Devices: Creating an engaging and intuitive content layout that works across multiple devices posed a challenge. By employing responsive design principles and conducting iterative testing, the team successfully addressed this issue, ensuring a seamless user experience across all devices.
Results
A user-centric digital tool was developed, featuring enhanced navigation, customised print functionality, refined taxonomy terms, optimised content layout, and personalised user profiles.
Positive feedback from stakeholders and end-users highlighted significant improvements in user experience. The content flow was simplified, making navigation more intuitive and content easier to understand and read.
The project not only met but exceeded client expectations, successfully delivering a tool that enhances access to Strengthened Quality Standards. The success was driven by an iterative design process and active stakeholder engagement.
The Digital Guidance Tool successfully enhanced user access to aged care quality standards, meeting all project objectives. Exceptional client communication and collaboration were pivotal to the project's success. This project underscores the value of user-centric design and collaborative approaches in digital tool development, showcasing how such strategies can lead to outstanding outcomes.
